Over summer I was doing a lot of weaving, but was getting very frustrated by the lack of interesting yarns at my disposal. My solution of course was to create my own, so I purchased my first spinning wheel, an Ashford Kiwi 2. It took me a few days to get to grips with it, but since then I've been hooked. Now my tax return is out of the way I've spent the last few days working on some really interesting art yarns with lots of texture. I'm hoping to get them added to the shop later this week. They're all on the drying rack at the moment, but his a few pictures of some yarn I've produced over the last few weeks.
2016 was a funny old year. Back in January I realised I'd fallen out of love with my business. After years of designing and making mini kits I found my heart wasn't in it any longer and my creativity was waning. At one point I thought about closing the business down and returning to teaching. Whilst deciding what to do I took a few months off and began making things just for the fun of it. I dusted off my old table top loom and even bought a spinning wheel (my latest obsession). The break did the trick and I got my mojo back. So after lots of careful planning I have decided on a new direction for my business. I say new, but I'm actually returning to selling fibre craft supplies, which is what I started out doing when I opened my Etsy shop back in 2006.
So 2017 is all about the make over, starting with a name change, Beth Connors Textiles, and a brand new look. I'll be selling hand dyed fibres for spinners and felters. Hand dyed yarns in a range of weights for knitting, crochet and weaving. Hand spun yarns for extreme knitting and a range of tools such as knitting needles and drop spindles. I'm also working on a new range of fibre craft kits and will be selling off my stock of pure wool felt. As for the mini kits, some of them will be shared here on the website as tutorials and some of them will be available as digital downloads.
I'll be working on the new website over the next few months, but for now you can have a little peek at what's to come over in my Etsy shop, which I've started to update with new products, such as the hand dyed sock yarn shown below.
